Welcome!

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the Biscuit Blog.  We hope to have a very eclectic newsletter-style blog, with product features, opinion polls, nutrition/behavior discussions and a Dog (or Cat) of the Blog Award for each post.  Let’s get started!

This is ultimate Pre-mix for folks who want to make their Dog’s food at home, but don’t want to miss out on anything.  For me, I just am too lazy to make my own!  In our house, this product accounts for only about 20% of our dogs’ meals.  It is simple a mild low glycemic addition.   Simply soak the Monzie’s with warm, distilled water for 30 minutes while you prepare the meat and other items* like eggs, yogurt, carrots, etc.  Put everything in the bowl and Voila!  DINNER!

Featured Treat:

Barkwheats all natural, hand-crafter buckwheat dog biscuits; SeaVeg Flavor

Barkwheats SeaVeg Chamomile

Barkwheats SeaVeg Chamomile

Ingredients: Organic buckwheat flour, organic bladderwrack powder, organic chamomile, organic free-range eggs, honey, organic safflower oil and water (corn, soy, gluten-free!)

Barkwheats are a Maine-made treat and we just love this company!  The owners are dog-crazy and are dedicated to local quality ingredients.  In fact, nearly 100% of Barkwheats ingredients are Maine-sourced!  It should be noted that Buckwheat is not a wheat at all, but a berry.  So, grain free pups can enjoy these treats as well.

Featured Toy:

West Paw Design Kitty Lure Caster

catnip-castor-toy

Entice all your cat’s senses with this interactive toy. With Kitty Lure tied to the end, your cat will spend hours batting and pawing its wispy feather body! The nylon cord has a loop closure, allowing for interchangeable fun!Measurements: Pole 2’, Nylon Cord 6’

. Made in Montana, USA.

Refills for this toy are available here as well.  This toy has been a huge hit with many of our feline customers!  It works like a fly fishing rod, and is simple to use.  Plus, it is made in the USA…can’t beat that!

Featured Accessory:

Ruffwear K9 Overcoat

k9overcoat_otgreen340

The K-9 Overcoat features a recycled fleece insulating liner enclosed in a durable, recycled polyester shell. Approximately 95% of the K-9 Overcoat is made from recycled materials.

We are obsessed with this awesome dog jacket.  It is all about function and nothing about fluff or “froo-froo” as many of our customers say.  ;-) You get a fleece lining for warmth and a water-proof, wind-resistant outer shell for maximum comfort.  We refuse to sell a coat or sweater without chest coverage…what’s the point?  Many of our friends (Dobbey) are low-ridin’, so we want to keep the tummy and chest clean and cozy all winter long.  This coat has a very forgiving structure to fit a variety of body shapes and sizes.   We’ve put a chihuahua into the XXS and a HUGE Golden Retriever into the XL!  Stop by with your furry friend for a fitting!

Dog/Cat of the Day:

Bauer, FETCH!

Bauer, FETCH!

Name:  Bauer Hinsman

Age: 11.5

Breed: Labrador Retriever

Pet Peeves: Ear cleanings and not being adored by each and every customer!

Favorite Toy:  Penn Tennis Balls and Planet Dog Orbees (he has at least 10!)

Favorite Food: He loves everything, but he gets a special “anti-cancer” diet (which is pretty darn good)

Siblings: Orli (Dog), Solah and Salem (Cats-yuck)

About:  Bauer was born July 10, 1997 in Florida.  His guardian is Bill Hinsman, co-owner of  The Loyal Biscuit Co.  They’ve been together since Bauer was a puppy and Bill was a sophomore in college!  Bauer has lived in Alabama, New York and Maine.  He currently resides in Camden.  He LOVES to retrieve, especially in the water.  He really enjoys hikes in the woods at our place in Washington, Maine.   Bauer was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and has had major surgery in the past two weeks.  He is now on Chemotherapy and doing remarkably well.  He played with a 10 month old Golden Retriever (Bella) this morning in the store and continues to go for jogs and walks.  Our goal is remission, but we are happy for each day with this awesome Dog!

I hope Bauer is doing better. I enjoyed playing with him during my undergrad years at Auburn. He has gotten a little gray around the mouth since I saw him last some 8 years ago.
