Today’s Dog of the Blog Award goes to…..
Leonardo Miguel Ross of Owls Head, Maine

Leo Ross
Name: Leonardo Miguel Ross (aka Leo, Lee Lee, Leona, Leonard, Lenny)
Age: about 1 1/2
Breed: Chihuahua and possibly Rat Terrier
Person: Angelica Ross
How you met:
I found Leo’s sad little face on PetFinder.com. I had just lost the love of my life… a not so mini black schnauzer that bravely battled cancer for 7 months. I was devastated, Gunny was my everything. I knew I could never replace Gunny, but I every time I got in my truck I would look at the empty seat beside me and cry. Someone had to fill that seat and the hole in my heart.
Then I saw Leo’s picture. My mother said “But there are cuter dogs, that one looks pitiful”. I said “But this one needs me”. Leo was in a foster home in New Orleans, he came from a kill shelter, which made him need me even more.
One early morning in October we made the trip to Biddeford to sit in a garage (The Golden Retriever Rescue Lifeline) with other prospective parents and wait for our babies to arrive. I watched as one by one, scared dogs ranging from months to over 5 years old were given to new parents. Then Leo’s foster mom said in a very thick N’Orleans accent “And here’s ma liddle man Leo!”. She handed me this wiggly little 6lb pup that immediately peed all over me then licked my entire face. I cried and held him tight, trying to ignore my wet shirt and feet. It was love at first sight. He didn’t cry on the way home, he didn’t cry that night, it was like we had known each other forever. Of course he did make life very challenging and exhausting, he was NOT a good puppy. He’s such a sweet boy though he’s easy to forgive.
Favorite snack: hmm, that’s a hard one because he’s very picky. He loves chicken jerky usually and cheese. Mainly he likes to chew on various dried animal parts.
Favorite Food: The most expensive sirloin you can find cooked on the grill (he has his own grill)
Tricks: He loves to play catch, but if you throw the ball wrong and he doesn’t catch it he’ll nip you. He’s also a master at manipulation, is that a trick?
Where does he sleep? On a small fold up couch at the end of my bed that’s piled with blankets. He thinks he’s the princess and the pea.
Pet Peeves:hmmn so many to list. The vacuum cleaner, fire, smoke, cats, re-heated food, broccoli stumps, people who ignore him, big dogs that bully him, mud, Maine winters, cloudy days, the list goes on he’s very persnickety.
Siblings: Brianna, Emma and Gracie (all kitties)
