A cool new assortment of toys arrived here today – including Gumby chew toys for dogs! We also received some cat toys that make them work for their treats, a few large fleas (the good kind!), and some puppy toys.

Most of you know by now that I have a MAJOR obsession with these collars. Well, time hasn’t healed me and I just can’t stop ordering these handmade (in North Carolina) collars. We’re placing another order tomorrow, so email me with requests.
Speaking of collars, we just got a fresh shipment of Auburn Rolled Leather Collars. These USA Made, naturally tanned leather collars just wreak of classic, timeless (and just a little snobby) style. This is my go-to collar for Orli who wears Bauer’s old collar. Now, I can’t wait until Eider can stop growing for 3 seconds…long enough to have a fitting. This line is our longest running collar style and here’s why:

We carry this collar in Tan only, because well…it’s the best looking one and ages like a dream. And by dream, I mean like the handle on a Louis Vuitton carry-on bag. Fear not, these collars are less than many of our nylon types, ranging from $20-40! Great for dogs with long coats (like Bronco D.), these collars won’t mat the hair. An unintended feature? If you keep this collar oiled regularly, it becomes an excellent water dog collar; resisting icky smells. Ok, I’ll stop now.

Walk E Woo TugRRR Toys are made in the USA! These toys are made with a silly-as-heck faux fur sewn onto tubular nylon webbing. The TugRRR toy has no squeakers, which decreases the need for your dog to murder the toy. Each toy is about 21″ long so as to maximize floppy good times and, ANDDDDD comes in 3 nutty color combinations! Orli has been conducting extensive product testing and results are excellent thus far. P.S. Machine washable = awesome.
Snook's Tooth Oil $11
Ok, so you all know I have very strong, passionate devotion to the Snook’s Sweet Potato Chews and Chips. Now, these fabulous Snooks have gone wild and made a tooth oil to accompany their snacks (or any other favorite chew snack). Wild!!! Basically, it is totally natural awesome herbal stuff that you can apply ( a little goes a long way) to your dog’s gumline and then set them free to chew on a Snook Chew or Bully stick. Translation? Fresh Breath and clean teeth without battling over a toothbrush. JOY!
Snook’s Tooth Oil: Food Grade Myrrh Extract, Food Grade essential oils of Anise, Spearmint, Clove and Vit E blended in a Vegetable Glycerin Base. Rub on teeth and gums to soften and remove tarter. This is a great food. Period. Wonderful for dogs with grain sensitivities. While most grain free foods use white flesh potatoes, this formula does not. Orli has a potato allergy, so it is an option for even the most sensitive dog I know! She has been eating this for two weeks with her Primal Grinds and she actually does a little “stomp-stomp” dance whilst she awaits her breakfast.

On the note of being picky, I haven’t been able to find a stylish dog bowl that isn’t imported from you-know-where. I don’t have a huge problem with products that are imported, but certain things are higher risk–namely ceramics and foods. Then, there are the bowls that are imported AND have safety testing. That is fine, but they tend to be a little “fancy” for my customers’ tastes.

I searched high and low all winter long to find the right raincoat to carry this spring and summer. Loyal Biscuit Co. customers have very high standards for canine outerwear. You want coverage from collar to tail as well as chest coverage. Most of your dogs are athletic and play rough…so the coat has to last. You want something multifunctional and useful year round. If it was cheap (30 or less), it was a terrible material and horrid fit. Then there were a few that were shockingly expensive (100 or more, I kid you not), but hardly thrilling. Some had silly prints and some were just plain tacky.

Most of you know that, after I took over this shop, I chose to no longer stock Frontline or Advantage. While both of these products (and many others) are effective and have their place in many pet’s lives, they deserve serious thought and consideration. I think it is important that you discuss these products with your veterinarian. Of course, I don’t believe that most vets know enough about nutrition (see here), but they certainly know about disease and treatment. I am not opposed to the use of these products and have used them in the past and may use them again. The potential for bug-borne diseases is very serious and deserves to be addressed both allopathically and holistically, depending on the dog. Talk to the vet and ask questions. You have a right to know every possible method and/or product for prevention.
So, I’d like to have a flea and tick talk, starting with a crash course about the pesky little bugs themselves! (Click each photo for a link to a boring Wikipedia page about each lovely critter. )
